Primus Cursus Award
In 2018, Hodács Lajos celebrated the 30th anniversary of his Optimist boats’ production. This milestone, reflecting decades of dedication and mastery of boatbuilding craft, was marked by the establishment of the "Primus Cursus Challenge Trophy" by Hodács Composites.
According to the founding document, from 2018 to 2028, this award is given annually to the top-ranking Hungarian Optimist sailor who is competing in their first national championship at the Hungarian Optimist Championship. Along with the Challenge Trophy, winners receive a commemorative award they may keep permanently and a 100,000 HUF voucher redeemable at the Hodács Composites workshop. The trophy will become the property of the sailing club whose sailors have won it the most times by the end of the 10-year period.
These awards are uniquely crafted pieces by artist László Kutassy, known among sailors for his creations, such as the Nádas Cup awards.
Here is a list of the winners since the award’s inception:
- 2018: The first recipient was Janka Bozóki (HUN 314) from VVSI. Congratulations!
- 2019: Artúr Andrik (HUN 377) from THE-YKA claimed the trophy. Congratulations!
- 2020: Martin Zarándy (HUN 2009) from SVE emerged as the best first-time championship sailor. Congratulations!

As we are now past the halfway point of this 10-year period, we look forward to seeing which club will ultimately earn the Primus Cursus Challenge Trophy. Best of luck to all first-time competitors in the upcoming championships!
